Although the prices of fuels have greatly increased over the last decade or two, it is argued that further increases in fuel prices are the only way to reduce world consumption of fuel and lessen pressure on the world’s fuel resources. The world consumption of fuel has been a topic of discussion in the world mostly because of the effect it has on climate change. Despite the increase in the price of fuels over the last decade or two, can we truly say that there has been a significant reduction in the consumption of fuel? The answer to this is yes and no.
Some countries might have recorded a decrease in consumption while others have not. For example, in developing countries, people rely on fuel for electricity, commuting and also to run their businesses. The increase in the cost of fuels has only made the standard of living high for these people.
There are other options that can be considered to reduce consumption and lessen the pressure on the world’s fuel resources. Options such as a reduction in the tax of importing solar panels- solar is a good source of energy, a reduction in the purchase or yearly tax of using an electric car or bike. Solar is known to provide equally good energy. It can be stored, and it has no adverse effect on the climate. Fuel is used to run the majority of vehicles in the world, and taxes are paid yearly for using a car in some countries such as Sweden. A reduction or removal of this tax can convince people to purchase an electric vehicle or bike.
Instead of focusing on the increase in price, the focus should be on making other renewable sources of energy available to the people.
