Sample Answer of Talk About Something Important that Has Been Kept in Your Family for A Long Time

I would love to talk about it, and my mother still kept a set of wooden furniture and a few utensils which she bought from her first salary when she started working. Though they have some defect she always gets them repaired, that furniture doesn’t even match with the interior of the house she has kept them in the storeroom, but she never agrees to remove them even she still uses those utensils sometimes for cooking and eating whenever she is alone because she knows we do not like her using them and we might get angry as its almost 30 years old and become very thin doesn’t look nice, but she is mad about it.

She always says I will show these to my grandchildren. These are not that valuable, but she is very much attached to them. I also have the same habit of keeping things which I like. Everyone in my family always tells me that my mother and I are the same.

Question 1. Which do you think are better, old things or new things?

Answer – I am an emotional person; I always get attached not only to people but also to things that I have at home. Practically for day to day uses, I love keeping new things, but I also have a great love for keeping old valuable things like antique furniture; I still have my college journal and uniform with me whenever I see them; they remind me of my college days.

Question 2. As well as family photographs, what are some other things that people keep in their family for a long time?

Answer – Apart from photographs, I feel there are many things which people love keeping for longer, like any gift related to them by which they are emotionally attached. My mother still kept my clothes which I used to wear when I was young. So, it depends on people and their emotional attachment.

Question 3. In your culture, what sorts of things do people often pass down from generation to generation? (Why?)

Answer – I am from Bihar, and the most common thing passed from one generation to another is property such as lands, houses, all types of assets. I have also seen people divide valuable utensils made of brass and copper.

Question 4. Why do you think people keep these things?

Answer – Valuable is one of the main reasons why people keep such things. Then comes the emotional attachment. So far, whatever I have kept, I am emotionally attached to them. They always remind me of the moment in which I lived with them.

Question 5. What are the benefits (= what is the value/what is the importance) of keeping some old things in the family?

Answer – If something is important, we must keep it always with us, depending upon the type of things it might be beneficial but not in all the cases sometimes sentiments are more important than the benefit. It will always keep us connected with the past, and we can show our next generations in memory of their ancestors.

Question 6. Do you think it’s good to recall the past?

Answer – I believe we must never forget our past. I think positive experiences will always give us happiness, and negative experiences will always remind us of mistakes and, most importantly, the lessons which we learned after this. I helped a girl before financially, but she ditched me until now. She has not returned my money, so don’t think I will ever forget this as it was a huge amount. Instead, I always remember this so that I do not repeat the same mistake in future.
