A glance at the two tables provided reveals the number of students who studied abroad in Canada and the USA between 2002 and 2003. It is evident that far more international students learn in the USA than Canada, but the most significant percentage of increased total students occurred in Canada.

In the first Table, the total number of international students in Canada increased by 17%, from nearly 60,000 to 70,000, in a year. Among the other two countries, the most significant change came to Chinese people, almost 2,000 people (45 per cent). At the same time, the USA and India citizens showed a rise of 9 per cent and 35 per cent respectively.

By contrast, the total number of Indian students in the USA dipped by 9%, from 200,000 to 182,000. But, there was around 7% in the number of international students from China and Canada. Although it was the most significant resource country in the USA, the increase in students per year only reached 2 per cent.
